Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a Nigerian politician born in Lagos in 1952, widely known for his long political career and his role in shaping modern opposition politics in Nigeria. He studied accounting and business administration in the United States, worked in accounting roles before fully entering politics, and was elected senator for Lagos West in 1992.

After the military dissolved the Senate in 1993, Tinubu went into exile and became active in the pro-democracy NADECO movement. He later won two terms as Governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007, played a central role in the coalition politics that helped form the APC, and became Nigeria's 16th President in 2023. His public image is tied to coalition building, institution shaping, and long-term political strategy.

During his governorship years in Lagos, his administration became known for institutional reforms, fiscal restructuring, and an urban governance model that influenced later political narratives around state-level delivery.
