A Landmark Meeting

The Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Dr. Abba Abubakar Aliyu, has showered praises on President Tinubu for keeping his campaign promises to Nigerians, especially in addressing the electricity challenge in the country. Dr. Abba made this known when the leadership of BAT Vanguard, a foremost support group of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, ably led by the National Convener and Chairman, NSITF Management Board, Hon. Sola Olofin, paid a visit to the management of the Rural Electrification Agency.

A Structured Approach to Power

Dr. Abba rolled out the various interventions of Mr. President through REA in addressing the electricity challenges in the country. According to him, Nigeria has had 16 Presidents; from the first one to the one before this President, there was never a structured means of addressing the electricity problem in the country like this government. This is the first time in the history of Nigeria where a government has come up with a structured means of solving, and actually solving, the electricity problems in the country.

Global Leadership in Renewable Energy

In the words of Dr. Abba, “Nigeria is currently implementing the biggest publicly funded renewable energy projects in the entire world, Why is nobody talking about it ? ” He said further that, “for the first time in the history of Nigeria, over 1,000 mini grids are being deployed in the country.” “Again, this is the first time that a structured program that will provide electricity for over 17.5 million people is being implemented by this government.”

Impact Across Nigeria

Dr. Abba disclosed further that over 42 interconnected mini grids are being deployed in the country to inject 288MW of electricity. According to him, here in Abuja, REA is doing projects in Jikwoyi 1 & 2, Dede, and Orozo. In this project so far, about 40MW has been added to Abuja alone. REA has projects across the country. According to Dr. Abba, “we have projects in Akwa Ibom, Ibadan, Kogi; Ayagba 1 & 2, Yobe, Osun, Anambra, Kano, and Rivers.” He said further, “In Adamawa, we just got 3 C of Os for 40 hectares of land for the interconnected mini grids we are doing in Adamawa.”

Grid Extension and Infrastructure

Dr. Abba also disclosed how he was able to get, within 12 hours, a C of O from the Governor of Kaduna for two projects REA is doing in Kaduna. He made known further that over 300 transformers have been deployed by REA in the Southwest alone. He said a lot of standalone solar systems have been rolled out across the country. He also made known that the national grid has been extended by 50,000 kilometers. Dr. Abba rounded off his presentation by saying that the government of President Tinubu has done a lot in the electric power sector in the country.

Response from BAT Vanguard

Responding on behalf of the group, Hon. Sola Olofin thanked Dr. Abba and his management team for the remarkable work they are doing in transforming the electricity sector and improving the lives of Nigerians through rural electrification projects across the country. He stated that the presentation by the MD clearly showed that the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not just a slogan, but a practical and result-oriented agenda that is already impacting millions of Nigerians.

Delivering on Campaign Promises

Hon. Sola said that, from the extensive projects and interventions outlined by the MD, he could not agree more that President Tinubu has truly delivered on his campaign promises, especially in the area of electricity and energy access. He noted that for years Nigerians had complained about poor power supply without seeing structured and measurable interventions, but under the present administration, there is now visible progress, strategic planning, and real implementation. He further commended Dr. Abba for his visionary leadership, commitment, and dedication to national service, stressing that young Nigerians in positions of authority must continue to justify the confidence reposed in them by Mr. President through hard work and measurable impact. According to him, the achievements recorded by the REA under Dr. Abba’s leadership have not only made President Tinubu proud, but have also given Nigerians renewed confidence in government institutions. Hon. Sola assured the management of REA that BAT Vanguard would continue to support, promote, and amplify the successes of the Agency across the country, while also mobilizing young people and grassroots communities to key into the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President.
